from mexico city... with all my grattitude and admiration.

i can still recall the first time i listened the mesmerizing voice of Leonard while singing "first we take manhattan". i believe i repeated the song a couple of times and a couple of days after i tried to get all the albums that, at that time (circa 1990) were available on the records shops in mexico city.
24 years later, i still let Leonard's, not only voice, but also writings, capture me once in a while; the feelings, the emotions and the magical places that his words build in my mind. yes, it's a magical journey so difficult to describe with words... because it's meant to be explored song after song, poem after poem, page after page, note after note. thank you so much Leonard... Mr. Cohen, for show me the place... for this introspective trip that i have everytime i read your poems or listen to your songs. and as a tribute to you, and to my favorite poem/song, i am leaving here one poem i wrote inspired by your words... thank you again Leonard, thank you again mr. Cohen... from mexico city, with all my grattitude and admiration. arturo jara.
and here it is the poem, inspired on my favorite song/poem of yours... (hope i don't ruin it)

a thousand kisses deep
(for my lovely wife andrea)

i ran into your arms,
i ran across the street,
we stared each other for a while,
a gaze so warm, a gaze so sweet.
i saw your beauty. i saw your love
i saw your soul at every inch
and then i held you in my arms...
a thousand kisses deep.

we walked together,
we held each other hands,
we walked side by side,
the night, the breeze, the warmth.
Then you looked my eyes, you smiled at me,
you came close, so close, so i can hear you breathe.
And like the sun kisses the rainfall
the same way i kissed your lips,
feeling your sweet and warm body...
a thousand kisses deep.

i know maybe one day,
one day you'll have to leave,
but before that occurs, we smile,
and we will be fulfilled
so even if we are not at the same place
even if we are far away,
i just have to close my eyes so i can hear you on my sleep...
always, everywhere...
a thousand kisses deep
