Leonard was the driver

In 1973 I was incarcerated in the county jail in Northampton, MA. Some of us were allowed to take a class taught by two professors from nearby Umass Amherst. One class featured a visit by a Zen Roshi who was in the area for a visit with the monks at the St. Joseph Abbey in Spencer, MA. The professors asked him to visit with us while in the area and he had agreed. There was another person in the group with the Roshi and the professors who was not introduced but a couple of us thought he looked familiar and we thought "that looks like Leonard Cohen." After the Roshi's excellent and inspiring talk we asked if it was indeed Leonard Cohen and they confirmed that it was. He was there as the Roshi's driver taking him on his visits. We got to speak with him a bit and one of those in the class asked him for some of his records. A couple weeks later a package arrived with copies of Leonard's albums. You normally wouldn't hear a night in jail described as great but listening to the Roshi and meeting Leonard Cohen certainly made this night special for those of us lucky to be there in that class.
