Through dark times and into the light

When I was in my early teens, I never slept. Well, not ever, but rarely and sporadically. These were the days before internet, free long distance or tv after 2am. I would read and listen to albums or cassette tapes and count the long hours until I had to go to school. I remember the first time I heard a Leonard Cohen song. I could feel it seep into my soul, into my head, into my heart and suddenly he was speaking only to me; only for me...he knew what that darkness was that kept me up every night. That kept me apart while in a crowd. As I grew and my life became at once more and less complicated, Leonard Cohen was the soundtrack. He was the singer to sing my through my loves, losses, failures and successes. I want to thank you, Mr. Cohen. As I now raise my own children, I always sang them to sleep to many of your songs when they were babies and they now load your songs onto their iPods and phones. You have now become the soundtrack to their lives as well.
