Catching The Darkness

I would say I am a more mature fan of Mr. Cohen's music (age 61) and a Buddhist to boot. (Maybe a bootist?) Leonard's last record, "Old Ideas" came at a very dark time in my life. Having allowed myself to become involved with a younger woman, several songs on this record spoke directly to my experience. "Crazy"..I had to go crazy to love you..Had to go down in the pit..Had to do time in the tower...begging my crazy to quit (oh my)..I've been saved by the blessed fatigue...(I know blessed fatigue now like never before). And the classic "I Caught The Darkness"...drinking from your cup..I said is this contagious?...you said just drink it up.
Having been a Cohenite for many many years finding those delicious lyrics we all have come to love and relate to, I can truly say that you, Mr. Cohen, have served as a dharma teacher of sorts..and a fellow lover who can get lost in the touch, in the smell, in the swell, of the great feminine. Happy Continuation Day.

Old Ideas came at a difficult time in my life too. (I am now 70) at that time my mother was dying and Going Home was so powerful for me, because she was going home. Every time I hear Going Home I think of my mother and that time.
