CHAPTER :
Teachers, the good kind.

Looking back I guess it was odd that I went to your concert with my high-school English teacher. We were studying modern poetry in class, and I was taken with several of your works. The textbook—I still have it—includes a photo of you, and to this day I can't say which I liked better, the way you wrote or the way you looked. I suspect Mrs. Stites had the same dilemma. (Wasn't it "dilemna" at some point?)

The concert setting was small and simple. A round, rotating stage with you, a mic, and your guitar. There might have been a few other musicians. That I don't remember, but the rest was unforgettable.

I've followed your work ever since. Thank you for putting words and a voice to so many things I can't.

Mrs. Stites and you have taught me well.

In gratitude,
Faye
